ROD

ROD challenges the way society places people into boxes based on gender and appearance. Through industrial workwear, pleather, work boots, and red heels, I explored the pressure people face to present themselves as either “masculine” or “feminine.”

Working closely with Rod throughout this series showed how quickly clothing can shape assumptions and expectations. Although the outfits change throughout the images, the person does not. This work aims to provoke conversation around gender expression and break down the social norms that tell people how they should look, dress, and exist, while encouraging freedom in self-expression.
