Ninety-Minute Bigot
With roughly 700,000 Catholics and 1.1 million Protestants populating Scotland, the sectarian divide between the two has been a persistent issue that has led to hatred, prejudice and bigotry. Nowadays, many of these differences and aggressions are presented in a football context, with sectarian slogans and threats appearing in the form of chants, flags and graffiti.
Growing up outside of the area, Aidan McMillan spoke to three generations of his father’s side of the family, both Catholic and Protestant, to learn about growing up in these towns with a mixed family.
