Inhale the Future

This project explores a speculative future shaped by rising adolescent vaping, addiction and wider systems of behavioural control. Using design fiction, it extrapolates current trends in nicotine consumption, historical precedents of substance use in warfare and trade, and declining birth rates to question how dependency may become embedded within social and institutional structures.

The work presents artefacts from this imagined world, including systems that regulate behaviour and reproduction, to provoke reflection on corporate influence, public health and autonomy. Rather than proposing solutions, the project uses exaggeration and fiction to reveal uncomfortable continuities between present-day practices and possible future outcomes.
