The Great Glasgow Bazaar

A place of great curiosity in her youth, Photographer Rebecca Russell, revisits, with a documentary eye, to encapsulate the true essence and core of the iconic Glasgow Barras.

In the development stages of her project, it was uncovered to Rebecca that her great-grandparents had a stall in The Barras during the 1930s.  This allowed a closer, more meaningful, and personal outlook of the communities formed within the markets.

An integral focus within her project was to immerse herself in her environment, documenting the values, identity and culture that create the foundation of The Glasgow Barrowland Markets, and which correlate with her own upbringing in a working-class family in Coatbridge.
